When?

What do you wish to experience?

Environment changes in natural rhythm all the time in Ranua, so there are things to see and do all year round. Thus, the time of the trip can be chosen based on which of the seasons you want to experience. In Ranua, the seasons are defined, in addition to traditional spring, summer, autumn and winter, by the activities, such as berry and mushroom-picking, farms’ works and rhythm of animals.

The amount of light varies from Midnight Sun to Polar night. Northern lights can be seen from autumn to spring, whenever the nights are dark enough. Also, the qualities of snow are different during different phases of winter. Ranua is located close to Arctic Circle, so it is not unusual to get some snow even in June.  One of the Finnish jokes goes: “Finnish summer does not have that much snow”. There is, however, proper summer, and sunny days (as well as nights!) in Ranua every year.
